I love my career!
I grew up in a small Alabama town playing in the woods with my brothers and playing dolls and riding bikes with my girlfriends. As a teenager I knew I wanted to help others who had difficulties in their life. I was a little late starting college because I was committed to raising my three sons. When the youngest was 14 I decided to go to college and pursue a career as a Licensed Professional Counselor. It is a long, hard journey but was all worth it for me.
I have worked in settings such as an inpatient mental health facility, in-home therapy, Director of an outpatient mental health facility, and 5 years as a mental health counselor in an all-male prison. All were great learning experiences for me, and helpful to the people I worked with. Teaching at Ga. Highland College and teaching parenting to divorcing parents for the Floyd County Court system was very rewarding.
Private practice mental health has been my favorite because I can work with clients in a manner that is best for their individual growth and development. I am free to work with my client’s goals, rather than goals I write for them. My clients are #1, rather than an agency.
I offer individual and couples therapy, and I conduct a book review/study once a week. Call for info.
